Raven Barrette

September 9 2017

The Raven loves this beautiful polymer clay Raven barrette, made by artist Margaret Regan from Helena, Montana, particularly since it's made in his image.

Ravens can use barrettes to hold their feathers in place!

Halloween Raven

November 1 2014

What's that - a Cardinal in the Owyhee desert? No - wait it's The Raven, who dressed up in costume and rode with Dudley on a 50-mile endurance ride for Halloween!

Almosta Silver City

July 19 2014

The Raven and DUDLEY rode their first 50-mile ride together! The Dude and The Raven bonded, particularly in the vet checks while eating. Dudley never likes to share his food, but he loved sharing with The Raven!

Eagle Extreme

June 14 2014

The Raven and Jose finished the Eagle Extreme 50-mile endurance ride, with Steph and Batman. This video gives you an idea of how much fun it was (and notice the baby antelope we rode up on at about 4:50!).

Tough Sucker

April 27 2014

The Raven had a lively, terrific 50-mile ride on Saruq in the Owyhee Tough Sucker II. It was a blustery day on a strong fast horse with good company and gorgeous scenery! The Raven has over 6000 endurance miles!

A Raven Meets a Porcupine

December 14 2013

This poor Raven met a porcupine and got stuck with some quills. He was smart enough to ask some people to help him. He sat there on the fence and let them yank the quills out of his head, even though it was quite painful! What a smart Raven! Here's a blog post telling about it.

Raven Fandango!

May 24-26, 2013

The Raven rode Rushcreek Mac on all 3 days of the Owyhee Fandango Endurance Ride. He had a blast! Mac is a fun horse to ride. Eating with Mac at the vet checks was particularly satisfying.

And Mac got Best Conditioned horse over the 3 days! Probably because he had Good Raven Luck riding with him.

The Raven Immortalized!

Wednesday November 14 2012

It's permanent now, etched in stone (flesh): The Raven immortalized!

The Raven is thinking of getting tattoos of Stormy and Jose, his favorite horses. Of course, they would have to be white tattoos.

Leaving London

Monday August 27 2012

Sure, Ravens can fly across oceans with their beautiful black wings. However, The Raven hopped aboard a Delta flight and let the big jet bring him back home to the USA.

Famished Raven in England

Wednesday August 22 2012

It was a looooong day for The Raven traveling to England. But he made it and is safely ensconced in a hotel NE of London, close to where the August 25 World Endurance Championship will be held.

He was so famished after the long journey (which involved missing his first plane out of Boise... Ravens don't always tell time well), here in a Brit restaurant, he and Steph decide to get the Thai curry.

Raven Party

Friday August 17 2012

Well, it's always a Raven party at home!

Raven quorks and squawks, Raven philosophical chats, Raven feasts, Raven music jamming, Raven feathers, Raven art.

It's always Ravenous where the Raven and his many cousins hang out, 2 of which are pictured here on the lawn after a Raven picnic!

Tevis Bound!

Thursday August 2 2012

The Raven is headed to Tevis! Not to ride (he already has two Tevis buckles!), and not to crew, but to report and see many of his old Tevis pals and Sierra Nevada Raven friends.

Tahoe and Auburn, California, here he comes!

Welcome to Death Valley - Book Review

Sunday February 19 2012

Artist and writer Janet Morgan, of Art & Adventures kindly sent The Raven her latest children's book,
"Welcome to Death Valley!"

The book is near and dear to The Raven's heart, not only because he's hiked and flown around Death Valley National Park, and ridden through parts of it on horseback, but Janet's story is told by Ravenna and Ramón, two Ravens who live in the park and who know all its secrets!

Through observant and clever Raven eyes, Ravenna and Ramón give us a guided tour, from the lowest point in Death Valley, Badwater Basin, the salty playa 282 feet below sea level, to the highest point, Telescope Peak, at 11,043 feet; past Zabriskie Point and Gower Gulch, over the spectacular Sand Dunes, through Desolation Canyon, Mosaic Canyon, and Ubehebe Crater.

The Ravens also share other things not as well known: the secrets of the night life in the sand dunes; the special colors of Death Valley in different light; the geology of the mountains and alluvial fans and valleys and ancient waterfalls and lakes, now dry; and, in one of the hottest and driest places on earth, hidden oases with precious water.

Janet has created art around the world and spent much time exploring Death Valley and visiting with Ravens. Her bright and colorful illustrations demonstrate the beauty of Death Valley that the Ravens live in and see every day.

It's not just a children's book. It's also a Raven book, and it's a collector's work of art!
